This is about my passport. Is it a must to have a vaild(current) Indian passport for travel to Europe or Asia(not India)? Is there a provision that I get a temporary travel doc?

I lost my passport and I don't want to go that botheration of duplicate one. Is it a must to have a passport for Citizenship? Kindly help with your/your friends' experiences. I am really going nuts with this.

Passport is an absolute must to travel outside north america. I think there is a provision for temporary document with the indian embassy in chicago, not sure so check with them. I don't know about citizenship requirements but it would make sense if US govt. wants to see a valid passport.

Eventually you have to get one. How will you get your passport without getting a duplicate one? Even for passport renewal you need to submit old passport. Without old passport you won't get a new one.

For traveling Asia/Europe (including your home country India) you do need passport.

You definitely want to have a valid passport at all times.

Make sure you make a timely police report about your passport and apply for a replacement ASAP.
Questions WILL arise if you wait for too long.
