Greencard got stolen!!!!!

Hi, guys, quick question here. My best friend is from England and her Greencard just got stolen while she went back to England to visit her parents last week. what can she do now and can she come back to the States without her greencard? should she contact the american ambassy in Britian?

Yes, your friend should contact American Consulate in Britain immidiately. They can help her on that issue.

I just have something to add. we all should make copies of these kind of documents (GC, RTD whatever) when we travel. I am not completely sure but it may help in some instances ...

I agree with you.

I always make copies for safety consideration.
anything could be happened.

at least a copy of GC, can help the American Consulate to retrieve the information as a starting point.

so she went to the american consulate in england. and they told her she has to pay for 165 US dollars to get a piece of paper to get her back into the States. and then once she come back here, she can reapply her greencard and paying for the card replacement cost again. does anybody have similar experince like this? did you have to pay the 165 dollars to the consulate for nothing or there is other ways around it.
