Greencard for twins born outside of the US

My partner and I are both GC holders. We recently became parents to twins and I had the birth outside of the US. I have been out of the US for almost 8 months now and am planning on returning next month. I have a couple of questions regarding bringing the babies into the US.
I understand that they are entiled to GC's at POE. It is my first trip since the birth and I'm wondering what kind of questions they will ask me at POE. Anyone experience with this?

Will they question me because I'm unmarried? I might be travelling without my partner as he's planning to return to US next week. Would it be better if we travelled together?

The lack of marriage might be an issue if the father was the only parent who was bringing the babies to the US. In such an event, they might want other evidence of paternity beyond the birth certificate. But if you the mother bring the babies alone, that won't be a problem. Provide the necessary documents (their passports and birth certificates) and you shouldn't get any unusual questioning.

Thank you Jackolantern.

Will the immigration offices ask us for proof of employment at the POE? My partner does not have a job as he was in Europe for the past 8 months also.
We have family in the US to stay with for a few months until we get sorted.
Also, if I enter the US alone with the babies will the immigration officers ask me about my partner, employment etc.

Did he get an employment-based green card, which was granted shortly before he left the US? If not, his lack of employment should not matter. However, they sometimes will ask about employment just for the heck of it. After a long weekend trip a couple years ago I was asked about my employment.

Also, if I enter the US alone with the babies will the immigration officers ask me about my partner, employment etc.
They might ask, so answer and you'll be fine. The only issue is if it's a recently granted employment-based green card, as described above.

No, his green card is not employment-based.
So basically it seems like we won't have any problems at POE. Will they not hassle us for been out 8 months? Also, where do we fill out the forms for the babies greencards? Is it in secondary inspection?
What kind of questions should we be expecting the immigration officers to ask us in secondary inspection.
Thanks alot for your help.

Stop worrying about it. Whatever they ask, just answer it. You have a good explanation for the 8 month absence -- you wanted to recover from the birth and wait until you were comfortable that the babies were strong enough to endure the travel. This is common situation, and you're not going to have problems unless there is some kind of violation or crime that you're hiding.

They'll process the babies in secondary inspection.
