Green Card

Hope someone can advise:

I'm a UK citizen and will be moving to the USA when I will be marrying my partner who is a U.S Citizen.

My question relates to delicate process of doing so.

When entering the USA I will have a normal 3 month max, tourist visa. Once married, how long is it advised you wait until yourself and your partner apply for your green card?

I have heard there is a chance of rejection if doing it too early as you 'misrepresented yourself at the airport' when entering.

Also, the process for your green card/work authorization to come through takes time - what if your 3 months is up and the process is still ongoing?

Lastly, is it a safe enough process filing for the green card yourself instead of via a immigration lawyers? I gather you save quite a lot of money from doing so!?

Thanks for any help! :D

You cannot enter the U.S. on a tourist visa with the intent of staying. That is visa fraud. It's fine to decide to stay after you enter; but if you already intend to stay before you enter, you cannot use a tourist visa to enter.
