Hi all,
I'm posting this here since all I receive from the local embassy is unsatisfactory to me. They basically tell me, after a few emails and phone calls, to forget to get the green card unless I marry US citizen.
I’m EU citizen applying for the green card because I want to serve in the Military. I’m a few months away from defending the PhD thesis in Biochemistry and Molecular biology. My publication record is not that strong, three first author publications, one or two co-author publications and a lot of stuff that doesn’t count as peer-reviewed (international and local conference contributions).
My question is; have any of you applied for the green card as a civilian to join the US Military or anyone knows anyone who did this? I’d appreciate some hand-on advice since I don’t get any from any officials.
To sum up my plans:
-apply for DV 2012 (is it possible to change the data in the submission form? I’ll defend the PhD in January or February 2011, earlier if they let me),
-apply for a NIV but reading this forum and qualifications some people had I think it’s out of my league.
Do DV and NIV applications exclude each other?
Another option someone briefly mentioned to me is to take an H or I visa and apply for a green card when I’m in the States. Can anyone tell me more about it? How long do I have to live in the States to apply for the green card? I’d prefer to go directly to the Military but if this is the way I have to take, I’ll take it. Problem here is that I’ll turn 31 at the end of the year and Military only accepts people till they reach certain age, depending what you are enlisting for.
Another option everybody mentions to me is marriage but I rather don’t think about it.
Thank you to anyone who answers,
sonce
