I'd like some clarification on my current situation. I went to the US with my parents when I was three years old. I stayed in the country until I graduated from High School and came back when I was 18 to my native country
Note: Im a native from Brasil
While I was in the US with my parents, my father pettioned for our green card (for himself, my mother and I... my brother and sister were both born in the US after a few years so they didnt need to apply) Unfortunately, due to medical problems, my mother had to come back to Brasil for treatment. I was 16 at the time, and I decided to stay with my dad to finnish high school and wait for my green card. By the time I graduated, our green card still hadnt been issued and I came back to Brasil to take care of my mom. 1 year and 4 months later, my dad received his GC, and since my mom and I left the country, we didnt receive ours. Its been 5 years since my dad has his GC, he still resides in the US and will be applying for his US Citizenship next month. After he receives his citizenship, he'll apply for my green card. I'm currently 25 years old, divorced with no children.
How long would it take , after he applies for my GC, for the process to be completed? I understand that for some countries it can take years, is this the case for Brasil?
Can I travel to the US during the wait period? I had planned on going to the US on vacation next year, before he applies for my green card.... would this impact on the process?
Also, does my father need to stay in the US until they verify the pettition? He plans on moving back to Brasil permanently after his naturalization.
