Green Card Renewal

Hi,

My Green Card expired 8 years ago. It was issued under F43 category. The country of origin is India and I am an Indian citizen.

Is it possible to renew the Green Card using i90? Or will it have to be a fresh application?

The green card is merely a proof of status. Its expiration is not itself significant. A non-conditional permanent resident (i.e. someone who had a 10-year green card)'s status does not expire. So if the person continued to reside in the US, they remain in legal permanent resident status no matter how many years their green card has expired, and they can apply for renewal at any time. On the other hand, if the person stopped residing in the US for too long, they have abandoned permanent resident status, even if the card is unexpired.

So the question is, have they remained residing in the US?
