Green card renewal

Hi,

My uncle's green card is coming up for renewal (Sept 06) after several years. He wishes to apply early and get the renewal process started. He also is thinking of travelling to India in January 06.

Is it possible to travel internationally when renewal is pending?

Please let me know

Your uncle's GC expires sep 06 so he can apply for renewal by jan 06 before he leaves US. If he returns to US before sep 06, there is no problem as GC is still valid. If you uncle happens to be outside the US after sep 06 and his GC expires... (assuming the renewal is still pending), he could contact the nearest US embassy and show receipts for GC renewal. They might issue an entry letter or extend the GC temporarliy till your uncle gets back. You need to call USCIS to check the exact procedure.
