GC steps

1) Based on ur education first step is Labor clearance [LC]. U should stay away from CA,NJ as LC is extreamly slow here. LC consists of state LC and then federal LC. There are 5 categories based on which ur LC can be applied.
2) Next step is I-140 which is applied once ur LC is cleared or some
employers can give u substitute labor.
3) Once I-140 is cleared then u can apply for I-485 which is last step.
Once 485 is approved u get GC.

PS: I-485 can also be applied along with I-140 [reffered to as concurrent filing]. Remember the steps posted above are just brief. If you need to find
out more on these do some research on it.

Some basic info in this site:

If you are not sure what documents you need in order to process Labor Certificate, I-140, and I-485 or you don't know completely, you definitely need an immigration lawyer. A lawyer will handle everything and help you greatly.
