green card process

Hello, everybody!
Finally, my husband and I are getting ready to file for the green card. We were supposed to do it back in June, but we had to deal with some unexpected problems. Anyway, we are ready now.
I have a question related to the EAD. Is there any procedure to expedite the EAD processing?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Lina

Once you file for your AOS (I485/I765 and I131) you will be given a date for fingerprinting. Once that's done you can call USCIS to expedite your EAD petition. They generally read you a list of conditions when you can apply for an expedited EAD. I chose extreme financial hardship. Once they take their info from you, they email you their decision. If it gets approved you will get the EAD card sooner.

Thank you for your reply, Gcmarch2010.
How long will it take them to schedule a fingerprinting appointment after receiving the documents? Will this expedited EAD processing cost an extra fee?
The reason for which I am asking about this expedited processing of the EAD is that I have received a nice job offer and wanted to know when I can accept it.

No, there is no fee for expedited EAD issuance. I don't have any experience with someone who request for EAD to be expedited, because that's assume other people who applied ahead of you don't need their EAD. I believe such issuance are discretionary.

Thank you, Al Southner.
Do you think the immigration services will have any problems with issuing an EAD earlier than the timeframe?

My documents were received on March 23 at the Chicago LockBox. I got an Biometrics/Fingerprinting appointment for April 15th. Alot of people do walk-ins (i.e go before the appointment date for fingerprinting) which moves your case along faster. Unfortunately, my center did not allow walk-ins so I had to wait for the day to go. I called USCIS the day after my fingerprinting after I found out about EAD expedite. My EAD was approved via email 2 business days after I called them and I received my EAD card a week later.

EAD is expedited if you prove to them that you will have financial hardships if you are out of work. If your spouse is in the military, there are more criteria that you can avail of. I have seen about a 50% success rate with expedite requests. It is on the discretion of the supervising officer to approve your request. However, if you fail the first time, there are cases where people have reapplied(i.e called USCIS again) and have gotten it expedited.

Thank you, Gcmarch2010.
Yes, my husband was in the active duty for four years. Now he is serving in the army reserve unit. I don't know if that counts.
I will proceed as you did.

Just ride the military wave to your expedited EAD. After all, they are revered as heroes, but are screwed by awful and near poverty salaries. Worst of all, they fight bravely for the country they love, but to a Congress that is cheap...

Yes, you are right, AlSouthner.
Some of them die for their country.
My husband has developed hypertrophy of heart muscle and hypertension while being in the active duty. Luckily, nothing happened while he was deployed.
