Based on the current rate of approval, Most of the 2002 I-485 applicants will get the GC with in 6 to 8 years and most of the 2003 I-485 applicants will get the GC with in 8 to 12 years.

The 1st / 2nd estimate seem ok, because it is the Republican government till then. The American democracy (and people) does not have the power to pull up or pull down the government for their misdeeds and injustice towards its citizens, immigrants and the rest of the world(countries).

However, the elections are next year. If the government is overthrown, things will change dramatically. One may see approvals in 6 - 9 months like before.

I am hoping for all members of this site that it 'will' happen.....

If democrats win 2004 presidential election, then it is good for illegal immigrants(check Democrats debates and Dick Gephardt recent bill) not for legal immigrant applicants like us.

Its the republicans and the economy!

The slow down in employment based GC approval last October seems to be due to the weak economy. When every day we hear that jobs are dissappearing, the directive must have come from the "TOP" to slow down the process with some excuse or the other and put us in torture and pain. GC slow down means more flexibility to hire Americans. The Clinton era was the best for America and immigrants.

Re: Its the republicans and the economy!

I know most of the immigrant community support Democrats assuming that they support immigrants.
Yes, Democrats support immigrants like illegal immigrants, Religious workers, TPS, ..... Family immigration, but Republicans actually support Employment based immigration since they have lot of support from large corporates and large corporates support employment based immigration.

As far as Clinton era is concerned he happened to there in the right time. PERIOD.
Clinton has to thank Elder Bush for his success against Iraq in previous war. The ten years following the war was golden era worlwide which can be attributed to food for oil deal with Iraq. Why France and German are crying like wolfs this time for war against Iraq , this is just because they want their share of cake(similar to which they enjoyed last time after Iraq war).

Obviously economy will reverse in the near future due to
1. US success in Iraq (some call it invasion, whatever may be it is)
2. Well tested tax cut plan
3. Outsourcing - US companies will make more profits so they will make more profits and reinvest which will create more jobs in US, if they don't make more profits due to outsourcing then these companies will stop outsourcing, so again more jobs in US.

We all very well know that slow processing of GC is not due to Republicans' policy or Democrats' policy, it is all due to 9/11 attackers and their supporters since all the political parties immigration policy these days revolves around security and not around economy. Even I accept this policy, since first we have to be alive then we can think of food.

delays

The security check is just an excuse, the delays are due to lack on manpower. People are getting finger printed 3 times before the green card is approved. If BCIS keeps doing this even FBI finger printting will become slow due to the extra volume.

I propose that we work BCIS to fund the hiring of extra hands to speed up the process. I think the premium processing scheme to fund the expansion of staff was a good idea. It should be expanded to I-485 too.

I am working on a goverment project for the last 2 years. I had FBI clearence every year. I also have a NACI security check valid for next 9 years. I dont think this will help me hasten my green card approval.
