i am going through a very hard time right now and any advice will be very much appreciated.

i've been married 3 years this past august to a man who i thought was the best man for me. he's a citizen and helped me file for residency. i've been a green card holder since march of 2006 and have my 2nd interview with immigration feb of 2008.

my issue is...my husband told me 4 days ago that he got his lover pregnant and that he wants a divorce. aside from me being super shocked and hurt that he was cheating on me, i am very very scared.

i've been told that if i get a divorce it will ruin all my efforts to be a permanent residence and a future citizen.

please please help me!! i am in desperate need to know what are the consequences to all of this.

Well, in this case, I would say gather as much evidence as you can, from his infidelity. Perhaps even a sworn statement from him stating the "real" reasons of this divorce.

You are able to remove the conditions on your residency (I-751) on your own, but you must prove that your marriage was entered in good faith. A divorce does not automatically ruin all of your efforts, but it makes it harder.

So gather evidence, that you lived together, and had a true marriage and that you are getting divorce because he cheated on you. Also get a good divorce/immigration lawyer.
