Hi,

I and my spouse are Green Card holders here in US. We are from India. We have received our Green Cards last year and it is valid till 2024. We are planning to have a child next year, in India. Once my wife delivers the baby in India, I want to bring them here in USA immediately. My wife will have her Green Card, hence she will not have any issue in entering USA. However, please let me know how my baby can come here? Do I need apply for a VISA for him/her?

The baby will not need a visa. A child born abroad to permanent resident mother, if brought while under 2 with either parent on that parent's first return to the US after the child's birth, can enter the US as an immigrant without needing an immigrant visa or anything else other than the birth certificate, and will automatically become a permanent resident upon entry. For the purposes of leaving India and convincing the airline to let you board, you may get a transportation letter from a US consulate.

Firstly, thank you so much. Can you please let me know the procedure of getting the transportation letter from the US Consulate? How much time does it take to get that?
