Green Card Holder (Need help with a question)

Hi All,
I have had my GC since 2001. I am taking an internship overseas for 6-7 mos. What's the procedure? Someone told me that I would have to get a special permission to be away from the US for more than 6 mos. or else they might just depart me on my way back.. Is it true? What form is it that will take care of this issue?

You do not need a Re-entry permit for any stay upto a year. If you are going to be outside the US for more than a year, then you need to apply for a Re-entry Permit (Form I-131).
