Green card holder insurance

Hi there,
I won the green card lottery, and have to arrive in the US before September 9th 2018. I'm unable to move permanently until early next year, so am travelling to the US just for 2 days to get the visa stamped before it expires, then returning to the UK. I'm confused by the complicated health/travel insurance rules. Do I need to get green card holder short term health insurance for this trip, or could I just get normal travel insurance from the UK? Obviously I don't yet have a US address. I also have a pre-existing condition, just to make it even more complicated! Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

For our activation trip, I just got travel insurance. I don't know whether that's good or bad, but I figured that I was still an Australian citizen living in Australia so I'd get repatriated back there if something happened in the US.

Are you worried about the penalty for not having insurance in 2018? If you are only in the US for 2 days, you probably qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion through the Physical Presence Test (330 days out of US in 12-month period) for the whole year, which means you should also have an exemption from the penalty for the whole year.
