I happen to know a lady who is in US on Green Card. She wants to sponsor her son and daughter from India who are above 21 years of age but unmarried. She has 3 more years of wait time to be a citizen but wants to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of sponsoring the children now, while she is on GC, vs when she become US Citizen. Is there greater documentation requirement when sponsoring on GC vs USC and what are the details...

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

She can file for them now, which would put them in the F2B category, and then when she's a citizen she can upgrade the petitions to F1 (sons and daughters of US citizens) which would reduce their wait time by about a year, with the original priority date maintained.

However, if either of them gets married before she becomes a citizen, that nullifies the petition for the one who got married, because there is no category for married children of permanent residents.
