Green Card final process Qs.

Hi! I applied for my parents for Permanent Residency and they have gone through the whole process, have gotten their passports stamped at the Embassy and are now required to enter the United States. I am not sure what happens next and was wondering if any one knew what to expect at the airport. I also have the following questions:

1) What are they to expect at the airport (the procedure)?

2) Does it matter which port they enter from? I have heard processing is a lot faster through certain states.

3) Upon entering the USA do they then have to fill out some form to get their green card in the mail or does it automically come when they enter the USA? Also, how long will it take for them to receive their green card in the mail?

4) Can they leave the country without their green card, as they want to return to wrap things up and then come and finally settle here?

If someone can answer these questions, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank You!
Sam

Please refer to posts in "Consular Processing" forum. One such thread is

I do not know the exact procedure. However, in general, they will submit the sealed envelope (Immigrant visa approval) they got from the embassy to the office, they will be fingerprinted. One of the posters recommended for parents to carry an additional PP size picture when they leave for US. There is a small chance that it may be required at POE.

I do not think it matters. Probably depends on how busy it is at that time.

I believe whatever needs to be done to order GC will be done at POE by the officer and parents. From the posts in the forum, it takes from 3 weeks to 2 months to receive GC in the mail.

It is probably better to receive the card and then leave since waiting upto 2 months for the card is not very long.
