If you loose your green card, instead of replacing it, can you directly apply for citizenship if you are eligible? Will you be asked for your green card anytime during the citizensip process?

Green card - citizenship

Hi,
You need to provide your green card informatio whilw applying for N-400.You need to submit the copy of your green card along with passport application. As suggested by user Mandi Io will ask for the GC during the interview and you must provide the card. So please make sure you apply for the card before you can apply for N-400. Hope this is helpful.

...... but is it sufficient for him/her to take (a) a copy of the lost Green Card and (b) a copy of the application to replace it or does he/she have to wait for the new GC to be supplied before rescheduling the interview ???? That sounds pretty drastic.

The GC renewal process is (in comparison to everything else the USCIS does), lickety-split fast. I'm assuming replacement is the same.

You apply (I think you can do it on line). A week or three later you get a receipt and an FP notice. You do the FP, and your card shows up a month or two later.

I would expect that the NOA receipt would be good enough.

file the greencard replacement application ONLINE!!! I did, and it took about a month. There's a thread about it in the green card section of this site.

Generally it is better to file I-90 and get a replacement GC before applying for US Citizenship.
