Hi All,
One of my friends told me, even Master's degree candidate can apply for a green card with out getting an H1b if he stayed here in US for atleast 3 years.
My friends current status is OPT and he's working for an IT company.
I know H1b is just a VISA status to work in US.
Is that true what I heard from my friend? are there any other chances of filing for Greencard?
Pls reply me...
Thanks in advance...

H-1B is not a requirement for applying for a green card, even if you don't have a master's degree. Neither is staying in the US for 3 years.

It just happens to be common that employment-based green card applicants get an H-1B visa before applying for a green card, because most companies won't directly apply for a green card, and it generally takes much longer to get a green card than an H-1B. If a company is willing to sponsor you for a green card without first doing an H-1B or L-1 or some other visa, that is up to them. With a Master's, if you are not from an oversubscribed country like India or China it is possible to get the green card in less than a year, that is why it may make sense to directly apply for the green card without H-1B first.

Anyway, this section of the forum "The Physical Green Card" is for people who have been notified that their green card was approved, but they are waiting to receive the card itself, or they have received the card but the card has some problems like wrong spelling of their name.
