Green card and the aftermath

Hi,

Can someone tell me if there is a rule about staying in the states after getting your green card. Is it true that you need to live in the states for 6 months per year at least to retain the card. Can someone please give me an authentic answer on this one.

Also, based on the above question can I continue to work and live in Canada. If I can, is there anything legal I need to do?

Thanks

Sudipta

Yes it is true. As in most countries (including Canada), you must live at least 180 days per year in order to keep your US GC. If you need to stay away longer than 180 days, you should apply for a returning resident permit (valid up to 2 years).
