Dear all,

sorry if this has been covered before. i could not find anything that resembled my question.

i am a 08 dv winner and here at home for my interview. with all hopes for a positive outcome i am hoping to bring some funds to the united states after the interview. what dollar amount can a GC holder allowed to bring to the states.
specifically, if there is a nepalese person with this knowledge. how do i do this in nepal. i wish to bring more than 20,000 usd between me and my spouse.

I cant speak about regulations in Nepal, but as far as the US is concerned there is no restriction on how much you bring in. That said, if you walk off the plane with a million dollars in a suitcase you will certainly raise some eyebrows :eek:

According to CPB (Customs & Border Patrol) the US agency incharge of such matters:
You may bring into or take out of the country (USA), including by mail, as much money as you wish. However, if it is more than $10,000, you will need to report it to CBP . Ask the CBP officer for the Currency Reporting Form (FinCen 105). The penalties for non-compliance can be severe.

“Money” means monetary instruments and includes U.S. or foreign coins currently in circulation, currency, traveler’s checks in any form, money orders, and negotiable instruments or investment securities in bearer form.
