I had my interview at the Omaha, NE District Office. VERY UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE. The interview pretty much centered around one only question. I was sweating bullets the entire time. Here it goes:
I was asked to bring the following documents:
Passport and I-94
EAD's.
Employment Letter
Birth Certificate
2 Pictures
I went into the building, submitted my interview letter, signed in on a book and I was asked to wait. Two hours later I was called in by an officer into her office. I was asked to take the oath. We sat down. She put all my files (I am guessing all the documents originally filed at the NSC that were transferred to Omaha) on her desk. First question she asks is: "I see here that the last time you entered into the country was back in April of 2002. Did you have any trouble entering then?" I said: "That's incorrect. I entered last in December of 2002. I do remember being reviewed by a second officer that last time but not in April of 2002." She asked the same question several times and I gave the same answer. She left for about 20 minutes to consult with another office.
When she came back she told me that immigration records showed me coming into the country on April 15th. At that time I offered my passport and the stamp from April 2002 on it was for April 11th. She asked several questions about that trip (a business trip into Mexico) I usually take twice a year with my sponsoring company. She left again and at that time I kept thinking to myself: "I wonder what freaken idiot has my same name or used my name in a suspicious way, entering the country around that same time and now my immigration records are questionable." At that point I thought: "I am going to be sent home today being told I need further background checks and I'll have to wait to hear back from then in eternity." She came back into the office and asked me to go into a separate one. There they took a picture of my face and took electronic fingerpints and started running a database search. I had nothing to fear but I was already extremely tense as I've never heard of anybody going through this during an interview. The search ended and the officer operating the computer told my interviewer: "all done, no matches found."
I was taken back to the initial office. I was asked the yes/no questions, fingerprints were taken. She then grabbed my passport and I94, asked me for my pictures, my employment letter. I offered my birth certificate as I had been asked for it on the interview letter and she didn't want it. She told me she needed to make a couple phone calls and asked me to go back to the waiting area. She never said I was approved. 20 long and painful minutes later she came back out with my passport stamp. No congratulations, no anything. WHO CARED AT THAT POINT. My passport was already stamped. She advised the plastic card should come within 6 months, that my stamp is valid for a year. And if I don't receive my plastic card in a year, I can be stamped again for another year.
