Got stamped today. My passport was expired so I asked for the stamp to be on the card. The officer asked for an additional picture. So please take 3 pictures with you when you go although your notice will say 2 pictures. The whole process after I reached the counter took only 30 min. He also took the asylum granted I94 and gave me a new I94 type bigger card with picture valid for 1 year. Everyone from the security guard to receptionist to the officer who saw my notice said congratulations and were very courteous. A nice change from the old INS!! Now waiting for my other family members approvals.

InQ4GC , congratulations again, got a question, does the notice says bring I-94? what documents do they ask to bring?

thanks

Cider_or,

The approval notice asks for 2 pictures, I94 and passport. The officer mentioned the drivers licence number on the white card as I did not want my expired passport stamped. So carry 3 pictures if you want the white card and your drivers license also.

Is it ok not to bring the passport? mine was issued by a country
that no longer exists so is invalid and has expired long time ago.

thanks.B.

It is OK for asylees and refugees not to have a passport.

Even if you have one, my personal suggestion is do not use it.

At the time of stamping the officer asked me for my passport. I said it is expired long time ago and I dont want a stamp on it but he insisted and I gave him my passport. He took all this inside and after 20 min called me for finger printing and gave me my white card. No stamp on passport.
I think you better take your passport.

According to my lawyer, do NOT take your passport to stamping if you are an asylee.

I am confused about this .... If we go there without our expired passports can they refuse to process us? .... Is there a policy regarding this issue or does it depend on person processing the stamping....

Regards,

CIS HQ understands that many asylees/refugees do not have national passports. Even those who do often do not wish to use them.

They will give you a special I-94 card if you have no passport.
