My husband and I got our passports stamped yesterday in the Chicago INS office. Even though we did not get our approval notices yet, we went to give it a try since I am leaving for India tomorrow. We took

I485 receipts
Passports
I 94s
EADs
APs
Two immigration photos
Printouts of Online Case status and USCIS emails

and tickets just in case the didn't believe our story of going out of the country.

The officer just took all our papers and asked for proof of residency in the chicago area ( luckily I had a mortgage bill will me ). He didn't ask to check our tickets. He came back after 15 mins saying that our cases were infact approved and that he will go ahead and stamp our passports. He took the I94s, EADs and APs.

Took fingerprints and signatures and stamped the passports for one year.

He said he will send all our documents to CSC and that they will issue the cards.

We went to the office at 7:00 AM - office opened at 7:30 and we were out by 8:30. People ahead of us who had approval notices were done with the whole process in half hour.

thanks.
