Got my PR but finishing up a semester of college

Hi, I got my entry visa and will enter in about a week to activate permanent residence.
I have applied to transfer from my current university to a few US universities.
However, I want to finish up the second semester of this school year (which ends in May or June).

As long as I'm not out of the country for a year, I retain my permanent residence right?

A one-time stretch of 6 or 7 months outside the US is very unlikely to cause you to lose your green card, although it may delay your eligibility for citizenship. But if you travel like that repeatedly it eventually will put you at serious risk of losing your green card.

I'll be absent from January to early June, less than six months outside the country, so on paper, it seems it wouldn't disrupt continuous residence.

Thanks for your insight.
