Got My Interview Invitation But.....

I will be interviewing at my old address in another district office!? I've updated my new address, the interview invitation notice was addressed to my new address, on the interview notice the new district office is listed, but I'm still being asked to go back to my old district for my interview?!

How buzzare? I'm not complaining, shoot, at least I have an interview scheduled, but it's weird that since all my new address had been updated and confirmed by USCIS, my interview is still at my old address district?

Did this happen to any of you?

Also, the 3 months (90 days) policy/rule about establish "residency" at your new address did not apply to me!? I've only been at my new address less than 60 days and I just received my interview letter!

Thats not right, and you're likely to find the interview being terminated for lack of jurisdiction as soon as you show your drivers license with the new address on it.

Could it be possible that you only managed to update your mailing address and not your residence address?

You now have two choices:
- try your luck at the interview, and risk being delayed longer while USCIS sort themselves out
- take an infopass appointment and see if you can clarify the situation asap.

Update

Talked to the USCIS customer service officer this afternoon and you are correct, they scheduled my interview at the wrong district office. Now we initiated a "file transfer" request to my old district office to mail my file/pending application to my new district office. Once that is done, then the new district office will reschedule me for an interview at the correct district office.

Ain't this a bitch?!

Looks like I am right back at the waiting game. Well, at least getting that interview letter was exciting for couple of days!

Do you have written proof that you spoke to this officer and paperwork showing that your file is being transferred?
Please show up at your old district office on the day of the interview to let them know. Just in case. You may get a denial letter for not attending, even if the IO said that he/she initiated a request to transfer your file and to get the interview re-scheduled. You can't trust USCIS.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. We need to cover all bases! After the IO filed an "referral" to my old district office requesting my pending application transfer, we have an electronic generated confirmation number.

With that confirmation number, I was instructed to write a letter to my old district office explaining why I won't be attending my interview (because it's the incorrect district office) and remind them again to transfer my file to my new district office.

To cover all bases, I also wrote a letter to my new district office with the "referral request" confirmation number to ask them to request my file from my old district office and reschedule my N400 interview.

Both letters has a copy of my original interview letter that was scheduled at my old district office.

Further, the IO that I spoke with gave me his full name to place in my letters to reference.

All letters are mailed certified letters.

Communication to both district offices are crucial since many times "one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing!" Between the official USCIS "referral request" submitted by the IO (with a confirmation number), writing a letter to both district office letting them know what's going on, and stating the IO's name in the letters, I believe all my bases are covered!

I won't have to show up at my scheduled interview at my old district, it has been confirmed. I was given a choice to either go to an INFOPASS to my new district office or I can write them a letter. I chose to write them a letter.

I'm good.

Update

OK, remember how I was schedule for an interview at my old address's District Office and I then ask them to re-schedule me at the correct District Office? Well, I got a notice for an interview already and this time is at the correct District Office! Even better, this interview is a month earlier than my initial interview!

So good, I'm glad all this incorrect District Office was sorted out and effeciently reissued me another interview date. Only 2 weeks turn around time! Not bad!?

Thats great news. Sounds like things will work out much better than if you'd simply gone to the old district for the interview.
