Hi All,

I know some people here have the same problem as mine... I just received my interview notice for April18 but we don't have documents to use as evidence. My husband said that having a child together is enough proof but knowing INS they will ask for docs. We are renting a house but we share it with his bestfriend, so only the 2 of them signed the lease. All our bills are named after our roommate bec. of credit issues. We don't have joint bank account bec. I don't have an SSN yet. All we have are the old bills from our first apartment a year ago where we lived after we got married. We do have a document from his prev. job showing me and our baby as his dependents. We moved 3x already since then, and no bills under our name bec. either we lived in a staff house or we have a roommate and the bills are already named to our roommate. I am planning on applying for joint bank account, credit cards, celphones on our names when I get my SSN but I think it would be too late for those since my interview will be a month from now. Can we use receipts from online purchases to show that we live on the same house? What should we do?

Another thing, a friend of mine who has an immigration lawyer cousin said that since my husband and I are almost 2yrs married, I might get my unconditional status after the first interview. Is that true?

Thanks all!

Get letters from your roommates about the living situation, your marriage, and the bills. Do you pay part of the bills even though your name is not on the bill? If so, have the roommate put that info in the letter also.

Just explain everything and specifically that you did not have your SSN so even if you were able, you would not be on the bills and could not open a bank account. Most of us are in the same situation, so I am sure immigration has to see this a lot.

For the unconditional GC, you say "almost" 2 years. I believe it has to be 2 years at the time of your interview? But maybe there is sometime I don't know if the interview date falls close to the 2 year mark. Someone else should know on here.

finally approved!!!

After my mega preparation for all the documents... asked our roommate for a letter and even asked the bank for letter as a proof that we have a newly opened joint account with them... put all documens in plastic leaves in a binder and put all the printed pictures in an album... I got approved! What's really weird is the immigration officer never mentioned about me being conditional and that I have to apply for the removal of the conditional status after sometime. He just said that since we have a child together and our case is very strong he just approved me and that starting today I am a Lawful Permanent Resident. He took my work card, didn't stamped my passport bec. he said he doesn't need to. He said I just have to wait for my card within 4wks.

Thanks so much everyone for all the advices...

Congratulations... When you get the card, make sure and check the expiration date to verify it is not conditional.

received the card

I received my card yesterday, 9days after the interview. There's an expiration date. But it says there under the Permanent Resident Card type that the card has expiration date and there are 2 kinds of resident: (1) for a conditional resident who should apply to remove the conditions 90 days before the card expires; (2) for the permanent resident, but the expiration date doesnt affect the status, but should use From I-90 to apply for a new card 90 days before the card expires. If I am a conditional resident, why the officer didn't mention anything about me being conditional or the conditions of my residency? All he said was starting April18, I am a Lawful Permanent Resident. How will I know if I am conditional or not?
