I went to the SFO INS today and got the Interim EAD. It is good for 8 months. I don't know why 8 instead of 3 months ( maybe they don't plan to improve the approval speed in the next few months). Anyhow, it is a relief that they are still issueing the same day EADs.
It was smooth except for the waiting part. I got in at 6.15am and got out by 11.30. I did not see even a single person who is in the similar situation ( waiting for Employment based AOS). The place was full of people who had filed family based I-485 or waiting on petition approval. They had got letters in the mail with a appointment time to get their EADs.
I did talked to a Turban guy. He had filed for EAD on Nov 20th and got a letter by Nov 27 from INS asking him to come in today to get his EAD. This guy was renewing the EAD for the 5th time. So, it is very clear that INS is still issuing the same day EADs and if they stop doing that, then people with Family based applications will be the worst affected ( which I can safely assume to be in thousands per day).
Papers required were:
- I-765
- copy of EAD receipt
- expired EAD card
- copy of passport
