Hi all,

My RD 10/3/2002 and ND 10/8/2002
(Concurrent filing)
I-140, RFE issued 12/31/02 received by lawyer 1/10/03, yet to reply
FP done 11/29/02
AP nothing so far
EAD iEAD got today valid for 8 months

Reached around 5:00 am and got out around 9:00 am. No questions asked about I-140 status.

They asked me for a copy of EAD application, my lawyer din't give me that and neither he asked me to take it with me. INS officers asked me to fill another one. I had a student optional training EAD two years back (already expired now). I had to fill this info in the EAD application. The INS officer asked for the old EAD card, attached it to the applictaion and approved it for 8 months.

The only concern is that he took the original old EAD card (and i don't even have a copy of it) and later when i asked information desk about it, i was told that it was INS property and they will not return it.

I now have no proof of my old EAD card. Do you guys think that would be ever needed ? What can i do about it ?

congratulations!!
Why would you need old EAD, it had no value since you have got new one. It was only a historic doc, cheer up.

For the new application, they asked about the old one in one of the sections of form I-765 and they asked for old EAD card as well for getting the new one

Hope they don't ask it for later EAD renewal or other stuff ?

But they will ask for last EAD not all EAD you had in past.
If they ask it will be stupidity at INS part. Infact They can not ask since they know you can not have last to last EAD with you.

My husband and I went to the SFO INS office yesterday to get iEAD and we had no idea that we had to fill an application so naturally didn't have the old EAD card from when we graduated from school that expired. We just answed to the "Yes" to the question where it said "Did you ever apply for EAD before?", filled in "California" as the office and "Pending" for the question "Was it approved or denied?".

The people at the SFO INS office were really cranky when we went, the person who took our application at the counter asked "What visa are you on now" we said H-1 ( both of us are on h-1 and when we first came to US we came on F-1). She then asked, do you still have your I -20 from when you first came to the US. Why did you change from F-1 to H-1. Dumb questions like that. But we got our EADs after a long wait. I guess that's what matters.

In my case also, in the morning just before leaving home, i just picked my old student EAD, and hence i had no photocopy or anything. When the INS officer asked for the EAD i showed him. He din't say anything and attached it to the application. Later after getting the EAD, i went to information desk and asked them about the old EAD and the person said that is INS property and they will not return it.

In the EAD application, they ask
"Did you ever apply for EAD before?" and office and validity dates ?

Anyways, i would have felt much better if i had atleast a copy of the old EAD card as well..

Help please!!!

Hi Ichalasami:

Did you have an expired EAD already? The reason I am asking is that I have an EAD that expires on 26th Feb and Advanced Parole that expires on 14th Feb. So in order to get the IEAD I plan to go before 14th Feb beacuse I want to be complete with all the documents. Can you please advise what will be a good time to go to SFO to get IEAD?

Thanks :)

This is the first time I got Interim EAD after applying for 485 and EAD (Still pending). But I think the process is the same for renewing EADs also.

1. EAD Receipt Notice - they take a copy
2. 485 Receipt Notice - they take a copy
3. Old EAD card - they take the actual card
4. EAD Application
5. Copies of passport the first page that has the photo.

There was a person in front of us who came to get EAD at SFO since it has already been more than 90 days after he applied for EAD renewal by mail.
