Got a job offer while self-petition for NIW

Hi, All,

I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in computer science and have minor work
left for the degree. I have been in the final step to file my I-140 with self-petition for NIW after many efforts of several months for
preparation. Recently I got a job offer as a software engineer from a
company. The job is not exactly in the same field as my research field
for the PhD, which my petition is based on. But since they are both in computer, there is certainly not irrelavant at all. Also, I will continue
my research to finish my degree part-timely after I start working. Can
anybody tell me if there will be any trouble for me in this situation?

BTW, the prespective job is not in the same site as my university, neither
under the same INS center. Which INS center should I file my petition to,
the center in the university area or the one in the company area?

The company is about to apply for an H-1B visa (and GC later) for me. Do these two petitions interfere with each other, or not at all?

Thanks a lot for any response!

It\'s all in your hands and depends on how you set accents in your petition. Just define your area so that it will include both your research and future job.
If you self petition, you can technically file to any of the 4 service centers. So file to the one that is faster and friendlier. For example, last year people from everywhere in the US filed NIWs to VSC, this year to TSC, next year it may change again. TSC was always considered the least strict one, and very fast. Next come VSC. Recently NSC looks more reasonable than before. I would say, CSC is still the worst and slowest.

Again, this is only average estimation, the situation may change any time. And it also depends on particular INS clerk, your luck, and god knows what.
