It looks like the judge has approved the 22,000 extra visas for permanent resident and the 150 000 asyless waiting is the next step. This are fresh news and they are not public that much yet. Now I wonder Why President Bush had a meeting with a couple of refugees this week. He knew this was coming.

Greetings!!!

Could you please make sure that the date is 2005, not 2004? Thanks.

Hate to disappoint you but Ashcroft appealed this ruling and the plaintiffs eventually settled the case with the department of Justice. Many felt that the settlement was not a good one since the unused green cards will be issued during a period of 5 years

5 yrs? I think it should be 3

Buuu!!! that sucks!!!.. Sorry everybody then!... I thought I was bringing good news to the Forum.. haha.. maybe I should kick myself out :D

If the green cards are issued in a period of 5 years that's a lot of time and is a bad settlement for everybody I guess. It's unbeliavable seriously to wait that long for a green card nowadays as an asylee ( 8-12 years??) . I think is better and faster to fall in love with an american girl and forget about waitings and stuff like that. I am pretty sure U get it after 1-2 years and that's much faster.
What I still wonder is why President Bush received some refugees some days ago and talked with them?...IS he actually thinking about a big reform on asylees/refugees applications? I know everything has to go through congress and senate before actually been approved but in both Houses the majority is Republican.... that means that Bush agreements become law ....
