Good Moral Character

Hi,

I will be applying in a months time in LA for citizenship, based on 5 years.

In 2002 I was given 3 traffic tickets: Leaving the scene of an accident, not notifying the police, careless driving.

This is what happened:

14 Days after my child was born, one night(10:30) she was crying uncontrollably and my husband wasn't home. I was out of formula, as I never stocked it, because I was nursing the baby. Didn't know why the baby was crying?...So I went out to buy the formula. As I was reversing from the apartment complex lot(it was a snowy night in march), I touched the car parked in the other row. I didn't have a cell phone or pen and paper to leave a note. I went to the store and came back in 15 - 20 minutes, got back, was attending to the still crying infant, the cop was at the door. He asked me whether the particular car was mine and whether I had hit this car. I said yes but hadn't done anything about it because of the baby. He checked registration, license, and gave these 3 tickets. It said to go to the court. The judge recommended me to hire a lawyer, which I did. 3 months later we got a plea bargain. And I just paid fine on all the tickets. And that was that.

Apparently, another person from our apartment had seen this and had notified the police with my car number.

I don't have any other traffic or other wise tickets from any states whatsoever.

Now I don't know how this will affect at the time of interview.

Also for the moral character question should I mark yes for all the questions from 15 thru 18?

I also have a copy of the police report written by the police who gave me the tickets. It says all this(third person calling to report, me saying about baby, also says the person called honked, but I drove away without stoping, the small scratches on the grill of other car, minor damage on my car's exhaust, the other car's driver acknowleding the new damage etc ).

I was sleep deprived and tired and not thinking properly. I should have stopped right there and taken care of it first.

I know some of you folks won't have any sympathy towards me as some of you must have found new sratches and scuff marks on your cars while it was parked. And you never found a note or found out who did it. I am sorry.

Do I have any chance at all??? at the interview?

hit and run

Try to find an immigration lawyer, I think your case is not a crime involve mortal turpitude and most likely you shall be fine.

You can describe the whole situation during the interview and hopefully you will gain some mercry from the officer.

Thank you

Thanks Jenny200506, for the reply.

**********Will I be deported because of this.????????*************

The court was a Municipal court in NJ. I remember my lawyer saying this is not a criminal offense.

Any thoughts anybody?

Thanks for your time.

kavitha Will I be deported becuase of this

deportation

If your lawyer said it's not a criminal case, you will certainly NOT be deported. You shall not have any problems applying CZ.

To be safe, consult with an immigration lawyer first but you probably don't need to hire any lawyers to file the paperwork.
