Going to Canada

Silly Man

Volunteer moderator
Might be the wrong forum, but my company is sending me to canada for a few weeks to oversee our canada operations. I am a GC holder, could it be an issue in any manner? Do I need a visa? .. also for the folks who have been to canada ... does US money work in Canada .. etc. etc. .. give me a brief overview.

Gurudev,

I am not lucky enough to have a GC. However fromw hat I last heard GC holders have a free pass to go to Canada... Atleast thats how I am going to celebrate my GC by going to Beautiful British Columbia :)

Anyways - US money DOES NOT work in canada. Credit Cards however do :)

Hope that helps

1. No any issue. US GC holder doesn't need visa to Canada.
2. Exchange some money before spending. US dollars do work there, but often be treated as $1 to $1. You know the difference.

You can go to Immigration to Canada forum, there will be more useful info.

Isn't this SPAM and shouldn't it be marked as such in the header?

This forum has truly degenerated from discussing 485 issues if the moderator himself posts silly questions that can be answered with 2 mins of search using Google.

How do you expect newbies to stop asking the same old questions and helping themselves by using the search if Senior members don't show them the way?

Thanks everyone for your answers. Good point $1 for $1 - that sucks, I'll carry some canadian cash.

US permanent residents don't need Canada visa.
$1 for $1 - No that's not true, but conversion rates might be little less than Bank rate ( few pennies).

Silly man,
if u want i have a document which tells u how to preserve ur green card. its pretty detailed.

I would absolutely LOVE to have that document .. can u send me that please?

.. and thanks for the link.

linuxrox - gonna be too busy for chicks .. :( .. so I hope they see me instead LOL. I joined a fairly big consulting firm that moved me to the east coast, which then transitioned me into a pretty good position in a full time position. All is good, except it keeps me way too busy to even breathe. I haven't had much of a chance to visit this forum even .. which is sorta sad because everytime I come around I see messages posted here for me, asking questions, which I haven't had time to answer ...

oh well I guess ... do .. only what you can do.

After 9/11 incident, Canadian permanent residents do need visa to come to US. Make sure if Canada has retaliated in any way.

May need visa

Green card holders do not need visa to VISIT. They WILL NEED visa to WORK. If you are going to Canada for working then you may need to apply for a visa.

Fiction: I moved to the east coast to join a big company

Fact: I got laid off in California so I was desparately lookin for a job. The only place that had an opening was somewhere near Buffalo, NY where it snows 8 months out of a year. So here I am!!

Fiction:I got in to this "pretty big" consulting firm to a "full time" job that pays me well.

Fact: I was tossing burgers with the "golden arch" company after I goy laid off, that too part time. Thank God I got a job that gives me a decent salary so that I don't have to tap into my retirement funds any more.

Fiction: My company is sending me to canada to over see a project.

Fact: Well, since I am the bottom 5% performers in this new company, they are kickin me off closer to the arctic, where i will be feeding my boss' pet polar bears....i mean, "over see" their well being.

Fiction: I haven't had time to even breathe with my new job.

Fact: I already got burnt once by goofing off my previous job spending too much time on the immigration portal writing spam. That's what got my ass fired in the first place.I ain't that stupid to do that again.Once bitten, twice shy!! Besides, it's too cold out here in this goddam place close to the north pole that the only person I can communicate with is Santa Clause.

Fiction: I do sometimes come to the immigration forum once in a while to share my extensive wisdom on immigration matters with the ignorant members of this portal, thereby uplifting their lives and showing them the direction to everlasting bliss.

Fact: This is the only place on earth where there are some people who still think I am something and listen to the same stupid rattling about JLo and my story about the different types of cell phones I own, my "great job" and my fancy cars(all these are made up anyways). This is the only place i get some morale boost in my otherwise sorry life. So, that's why i come here and haunt this place like a ghost even after i got my green card. Please don't chase me away!!OOps!! gotta run!! someone's coming, i think.I am already at rock bottom...God knows where they'll send me next. Alaska, perhaps?

Re: Fact vs. Fiction

Hilarious satire! :) And now be prepared to have your posts deleted, apparently you have to do as "god" says, unfortunately you can't do as 'god' does. Otherwise your posts will not only be deleted but you will also be accused of peeing in "god's" PJ's/Bed/Face/whatever.

Once again, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes??
