So on March 8th, I received this message..

On March 8, 2006, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready.

And today, there is an update and it shows..

This case has been approved. On March 13, 2006, an approval notice was mailed. If 14 days have passed and you have not received this notice, you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.

USCIS never ceases to amaze....

That IS the correct order.

The first message is to tell you that your card has been ordered and will be sent to you when ready.

The second message is to tell you that your card is ready (thats what they mean by approval notice) and will be mailed to you.

Actually, once the card order is completed you get a different message..

"On xxxx, the card order was completed and we mailed the applicant's new card directly to him or her. If 14 days have passed and you have not received this card, you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address, please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283."

The order should be .. 1) application approved, 2) card ordered, 3) card completed and shipped.

The order you mentioned is exactly the order i saw with my case. The letter that has the card (EAD or GC) attached to it is referred to as an approval letter. As i have have been saying in the past, online updates suck and its not worth anyone;s time to break their head trying to understand their case progress by referring to the online status. In short, your card is on the way and you should see it soon.
