Hi, my wife and I are getting a divorce, she is going back to her home country, so she is ready to abandon her GC. But she might still come back to US on business trip in the future, what is the appropriate way of abandoning her GC? She is worried it might cause her visa trouble when she visit US in the future. Any information or suggestion are appreciated.

Thanks,
dY

Actually, abandoning your GC officially and voluntarily is good evidence that you no longer have immigrant intent, and getting a B1/B2 visa shouldn't be a problem in the future (provided sufficient ties have been established in the other country). But if USCIS revokes the green card on their initiative, that's where the problems might arise with future nonimmigrant visa applications.

To surrender the card, one must fill out form I-407 and the process must be completed via a US consulate (because if you did it within the US you'd become out of status!).
