I am tired of this GC crap and I am seriously planning to go back to desh and was wondering if my savings are enough to live comfortably there. Of course, I plan to work there for my day to day living costs but I do not want to be concerned if I do not find work for a few months or if I quit for some time if I do not like the work. In the worst case, assuming I never work will my savings be enough ?

I have lived here for 8.5 years and have not been to desh for 7 yrs now. i had a good run here for a few years and have about Rs 2 crores in savings. i also have a house in bombay. assuming i go back, is that amount enough for me to live comfortable in mumbai or pune without working and just living off the interest ? what is your opinion ?

Are any of you guys thinking the same. Also, What is the average savings of people, I am curious? Am I on the high side or low side or average ?

way to high

How come you saved so much in 8.5 years? You will live like king with that much in India.
If you invest wisely it will get doubled in another 8 years. Good luck.

I think you can live comfortable life in India with the money you have.

Depends on where u want to go 500K is a decent savings

the salary in India is high if you have exp. My last salary in India was higher than first one in US and that is way back in 1998. it is much better now and with 10yrs Software exp one should be talking 1.5 lac / month not bad once you get the expenses out

Yes you can. But it basically depends on your lifestyle and your expenses.
So, lets say you have RS 20,000,000.

Putting yourmoney in safest possible Government bank Fixed deposiyt will give you 5% (may get more but interest rates in India are going down too)

So Annual Income = $ 20,000,000 * 5% = Rs1,000,000
Say you hit 25% tax bracket in Income tax that leaves you with Rs 750,000 per year or Rs 62,500 per month.

In this you can have very good lifestyle especially in Pune. But again depends on your lifestly. If you want to go partying and clubbing in 5 star hotel every night then maybe not. If you want to have good middle class or upper middle class life than yes. All depends on how extravagant or simple your lifestly will be, inflation and interest.

If you think paisa hi sab kuch... then go.

You will live like a baadshah... for sometime then...

aaj yeh phone kyun nahi chalta ?
aaj nal me paani kyun nahi aata?
aaj saari dukane kyun bandh hai?
jaan, aaj macchar ki agarbatti leke aana..

LEKIN.. MERE BHAI.. IN SAARI BAATON KE BAWAJOOD..

APNA DESH TO PHIR APNA DESH HAI...GULAB KE PHOOL ME SUGANDH HAI.. CHAMPA HAI, CHAMELI HAI...

PATI HAI, PATNI HAI AUR .... KAAMWAALI BHI HAI. :D

akbari bhai tumhaaree baton kaa jawaab nahee, haan aur rahee baat 5 star aur disco's kee, tou yeh khuda kaa bundaa maloom hota hai, agar issko in sab cheezon kaa shauk hota, tou 8.5 years main. 0.5 million kahan se save kartaa. Iskee life mast rehne waalee hai. Jaa bhai tu aish kar.

Blister1889,
I am shocked man... how could anybody save Rs 2 crore in 8 years... no offence Pl... Can you give us some tips...

Dil hai hindustaani!!!!

I could not agree more on what Akberi has said. Look guys, apna desh apna hi hota hai. I just came back from month and a half long vacation from India. India ka haal kuch aise hi hai....zindagi har khadam ek nayi jung hai. The moment u step out, the struggle starts. You will see a huge truck passing right in front of your house, so u r expected to duck the truck. The moment you hit the road, u will notice...traffic is consistently inconsistent. Everyone is in real rush making u think that you are the only one left who has the whole time in the world to wait and let other pass by. I tried that thinking someone will give me a chance as I have given chance to other...no way...I learnt that was a very wishful thought. Har taraf jung, lekin yaar, apna desh toh apna desh hai. Yeh apne bachpan ki yaad dilaata hai...when gulli-danda was more popular than cricket, when we were desperately waiting for 'yeh joh hai zindagi', chitrahaar and vikram-baitaal. When 50 paisa meant at least 10 toffees, when the left over pages of the last years notebooks were used for rough work, when chelpark and natraj were encouraged against reynolds. When the first rain meant getting drenched, making 'kaagaz ki khisti', when we were not FEELING patakhes on diwaali and gulaals on holis as air polluting or allergic agents....the list can be endless.

Bottom line yaar, if I have the money as blister1889 does....I would not give a second thought.....My friend, tu jaa aur aish kar....I am right behind you. I am planning the same.

Give us some tips

Trust me.. Thank God, I am as fortunate as blister1889.. even more but my reasons for staying here are 3 girls born and brought up here. Masha allah, they are well behaved, cultured etc.. but I can not dare to sacrifice their way of life. I passed 17+ years hoping that this GC drama will end today/tomorrow..you know how it goes. If I have this amount of money without any other emotional attachment to this country, then I would not think twice to go back to my Bharat. Even though we have...

All the problems all the time
but the time with
kadaz ki kisti
dost, biradar ke saath chay ki masti
are delight of life time ! :D

ppk and nash

As I said, I got lucky with a good long term contract.. Did lose some money in the stock market crash but fortunately not a whole lot.
Do you think this is above average? In my case this is just from one job and one person in the family working ?
I am assuming with all the dual earners out there.. this amount will be much more if both husband wife are working...
I don't think this is a very big number. What are other people's comments ?

Since you have your own home in B'bay. you are all set. you have enough. THANK GOD.

too much....

when we got up at 4am for fireworks,
every diwali would mean new clothes, stitched by local tailor...
sheer-korma at friends house on eid
plastic-ball cricket after 10pm,
katte pe chai peena..1 by 2
kati patang ke peeche bhaagna
apne class ki kisi ladki se "pyaar" karna
exam ke pehle dost ko phone karna aur kehna "yeh question zaroor ayega"
the list is endless...thanks guys...i went down a memory lane today....
here is a song apt for this stuation:

Yeh daulat bhi lelo, yeh shoharat bhi lelo
Bhale cheen lo, mujhse meri jawani
Magar mujhko lautado bachpan ka saawan
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani
Yeh daulat bhi lelo, yeh shoharat bhi lelo
Bhale cheen lo, mujhse meri jawani
Magar mujhko lautado bachpan ka saawan
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani

Muhalle ki sabse, nishaani poorani
Woh budhiya jise, bachhe kehte the nani
Woh nani ki baton mein pariyon ka dehra
Woh chehre ki jhuriyon mein sadiyon ka tera
Bhulaye nahi, bhul sakta hain koi
Woh choti si raatein, woh lambi kahani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani

Kadi dhoop mein, apne ghar se nikalna
Woh chidiya, woh bulbul, woh titli pakadna
Woh budhiya ki shaadi pey ladna jaghadna
Woh jhulo se girna, woh girke sambhalna
Woh pital ke chaliyon ke pyaare se tohfay
Woh tooti hui, choodiyon ki nishaani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani

Kabhi ret ke, oonche keelon pe jaanaa
Gharonde banana, banake mitaana
Woh maasoom chahat ki tasveer apni
Woh khwabon, khilono ki jaagir apni
Naa duniya kaa gum tha, naa rishton ke bandhan
Badi khoobsurat, thi woh zindagaani
Yeh daulat bhi lelo, yeh shoharat bhi lelo
Bhale cheen lo, mujhse meri jawani
Magar mujhko lautado bachpan ka sawan
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani
Woh kagaz ki kashti, woh baarish ka paani

lyrics by sudarshan fakir and sung by jagjit singh..

Blister,

Trust me its HUGE.... In almost same years (8) even my dreams are no where close to that figure. However, unlike you, I have been to India almost every year (7 times) with family.
