Getting visa for parents after oath

Hi everybody,

I had my oath ceremony ~3 weeks ago, and now my parents want to visit. Does anyone know what is faster and easier to get for them, a tourist visa or some other type of visiting visa as parents of a citizen? They called the consulate asking for a tourist visa but won't be able to get an appointment for another 3 months (until december 15). Any advice will be much appreciated.

Kind regards, Harish

I read it in "India Abroad" newspaper that the earliest you can get the appointment is in January 2006 for visas. Bascially, they need get a visitor's visa. If you have family or friends in Canada, it may be faster to get a visitor's visa to Canada, then they can try to get a US visitor's visa from a Consulate in Canada. There is some risk as your parent's will have to convince the officer that why they didn't apply for the visa in India. If you apply for their green cards, provided they would like to immigrate to the US, that will take even longer, 8-12 months. Good luck.

Harish - There is no special processing for parents of USC for a visitor visa. They have to apply for a visitor visa just like anyone else (showing strong ties to their country of nationality). On the other hand, if you want to sponsor them for USPR, it will take anywhere from 8 - 12 months (since they fall under immediate family category, and do not have a wait time for I-130 approval). Good luck.
