Getting Married Next Month

Actually the thing is that I am on F1 visa and am graduating in Dec 2005 , after that I would have one year of OPT but by Oct 2006 I would be on H1. As I have followed discussions on this group, I am told that I would have 2 years temporary GC but I was wondering that if I marry next month and apply for GC in Oct 2006 then I would have my interview in Aporil 2007(Just wild guess) then I would get permanemt green card because two years would have passed of my marriage by that time. Is two year period started from marriage date or issuance of first green card. If this starts from marriage date then I dont have any hurry and I would apply late so that I get interview call after two years and I would get permanent GC in first time. What you peoiple advise me ??

One more thing that What is name check duration and when it is done ,When I came here in US 2 years ago on F1 visa , they took around 6 months for my name check while my friends just got clearance in 2-3 weeks so they might take long again .... When they do that ?? After issuance of EAD, before interview or when ??

Can some one tell me generally how long it would take me to get my interview(read GC) from Colorado. If I apply today with my I 485 and I 430 , what is the safe bet. I know no one can assure you but wats the general time. I believe that you get EAD in 3 months and interview within one year so whole process takes 15 montha from apply date. Is it true ??

Thanks all for contributing and helping people like me on this forum.

It is never sure that you r going to get GC after 2 or 3 years. Even if evthng goes fine, name check might take years.
Please make little effort by going through past discussions in this forum and you can do all the process yourself.
Good Luck!

no need for a lawyer. I too am on a F1 visa
these are the forms you will need
I-130: visa petition filled out by your spouse asking for you the beneficiary to get an immigrant visa only proof of marriage you will need for this application is your marriage certificate
I-485: adjustment of status (AOS) filled out by you asking for your status F1 to be changed to legal permanent resident (LPR). can be sent along with the I-130 because your spouse is USC a visa number will be available immediately

optional forms
I-765: employment authorization document (EAD) this is your work permit good for one year, can be renewed until your green card (GC) is approved
I-131: advance parole (AP) allows you to leave the us while your aos is processing

now download the forms and read the instructions

P.S. check your school library i was able to borrow a really good book
"fiance and marriage visa" by Ilona Bray that had step by step instructions
