Getting Married as a GC Holder

Hey guys, I know that this issue has been discussed before, but I still have some questions and I'm sure you guys will have some answers. I will be, hopefully, getting my GC sometime this year. I plan to marry someone from my home country. So, if she comes here on a tourism visa, and we get married here, would she be able to stay here? Or would she still have to leave the country and wait for years for her GC approval?

Thanks,

Gino

I have similar case, but I still don't have GC. My wife is here on F-1 and I pay for her school (a lot of money). So far, I didn't not find any way for her to stay legaly except F-1. If you get your GC, you can apply for I-130, but she can't stay and she will have to leave and wait for her immigration number. As we disscussed in some of the previous posts, there is a V visa possibility, but ti will require congress to reinstate it. Check my post for LolaLi few days back.

Thanks, nofreedom. I read the thread, this whole thing is frustrating. They do treat asylees in some respect as third-class citiznes! It makes no sense, as people with H-1, F-1, J-1, G-4, etc. can immediately bring their spouses to the US, but spouses of asylees have to wait for years!

I know man, I live with that frustration for a long time, but I will do anything to be with the one I chose to be my partner in life. I don't care what USCIS says. We will find a way. In your case it is tricky because once she comes here, she will have to stay legaly in this country. If she goes back, it might take another 4 years until she gets her immigration number. I had some friends who did that, but 4 years man ... I would be mid 30 then. I already waisted 10 years of my life just to be here. But not any more ... Try to find some way. Maybe school is the option?? In my case was very tough because it was hard to get the visa from my country for her, but we did it somehow and now I have to pay big $$ for her school. Maybe it will be easier for you. Community college is cheap (not an option in my case because it had to be 4 year university in order for her to get visa). Anyway, just some ideas.

nofreedom, thanks a lot for suggestions. I will try to encourage her to apply to some schools here, and I hope she will be able to get some scholarship! I can't wait four years, as I would be too old by then!
