Getting married AFTER sending Visa Packet III

Gurus,

My case is at the Mumbai Consulate and I need to send Visa Packet III to them in order to request an interview. The packet essentially means sending DS-230 Part 1 form. I am a single now, but will get married in July in India.

In order to save time, can I just send Visa Packet III forms mentioning that I am a "single" (marital status) right now and then take my wife for the interview directly whenever it happens ?. If I send Visa PAcket III by mid/end June, I will get the interview by August end/September. I plan to go to India meanwhile, get married and bring my wife on H4. And then go back for the interview. Is there any risk involved in this ?

OR, is it advisable that I should get married first and then send Visa Packet III forms mentioning that my marital status is "married" and proceed ?

Has anyone done this kind of thing ?

thanks,

Packet 3 is sent ot NVC and not to the US Consulate directly.
Packet 3 (DS 230 Part 1) for yourself and each dependent.

I am a single now, but will get married in July in India.

Congratulations.

Yes you can send the completed Packet 3 right now as "single". But you just cannot take your wife later on the interview date. You will have to file packet 3 (DS 230 Part 1 and I-134 Affidavit of support) for your wife in NVC(if wife is in US) or US Consulate, Mumbai (if wife is in India). The US consulate will then schedule the interview for your wife at a later date.

If I send Visa PAcket III by mid/end June, I will get the interview by August end/September.

After you send the completed packet to NVC in US, then it might take about 3 to 5 months before you will get the interview, assuming your application is complete and you don't get any RFE(s).

I plan to go to India meanwhile, get married and bring my wife on H4.

This can be done. Consult the attorney for best advice.

And then go back for the interview. Is there any risk involved in this ?

There is no risk. YOur application might get delayed if you file your wife application in US(Assuming your wife is in US) as it will go thorugh the other checks administered by NVC.

This can also be done. If I were you, I would send the packet 3 as single, get married in India and process the wife GC from India. Bring your wife on GC here.

Has anyone done this kind of thing ?

thanks,
