getting J2 visa after Las Vegas marriage

Hello everybody

My girlfriend (4 years dating) will be starting her Phd studies in the states this August.
She will get J1 visa....Since I would like to join her in the states.
Is it possible for me to come on tourist visa, we get married in Vegas and then I return to my home country and apply for my J2 visa.
Is this possible? Are there any obstacles to this??

It is possible?? Yes, as you are legally married. Obstacles may have to do with convincing the consulate back in your country that the marriage is not fraudulent and not a back-door to immigration intent. Perhaps it's safer to get married in your home country before you both come.
