getting AP at a local office

My I485 has been transferred to San Francisco
office. My lawyer told me that I have to go there
to get my AP (which was filed in August 2003).
I wonder if anyone has done that, and if so
I would appreciate very much your advice on
what to bring and when to get there and
any other tips.
