Getting a Fed Tax ID for my company

I am a canadian PR and I have incorporated a company in US. I want to get a Federal Tax-ID for the company. Through my research I came to know that an officer of the company has to file for Fed-Tax ID.. My question is two fold..

Firstly, Can I be the officer of the company and apply for Fed Tax ID?
Case 1: I guess that in order to become the officer of the company one needs to have work authorization. I don't have a work authorization in US.. But I just want to get the Fed Tax ID, so can I be the officer of my company for just that reason?
Case 2: I dont have a SSN. I heard that I can use my passport instead for Fed Tax ID, but using a passport will take a lot of time in getting Fed Tax ID (or even, one may not get a fed tax id as the rules are stricter!!).

If somebody could throw some light on the best way to get a Fed Tax ID in my case that would be great.. Thanks for the help.

I was in a similar situation and I did solve this by partnering with a GC holder in the USA who could act as a officer and a 5% stake holder on paper.

I have seen you also going back on forth on this and I have gone through a similar diliemma to solve this.

Is there a way we could talk and share our experinces... feel free to email me on nyc101@gmail.com and leave a number where I can call you.

May be we are able to get a solution to this.

Let me know

You can be a officer of your company without having ssn number but cannot work for your company. You could pay yourself as stock dividends as being a 100% shareholder.

for purpose of getting TAX ID number, you cannot get it yourself . Find a friend or relative , who can trust you and can register to do it for you. The purpose it is that SSA can get hold of this person as the company has amount witholding payable to fed govt.
