I am travelling thru Frankfurt at end of this month and would like to apply for transit visas for both me & my wife. And while preparing the documentation I am stuck as they are asking:
1. original of valid US alien registration card or valid US visa
-->If I have those why would I apply for transit visa first of all. Doesnt make sense.
2. confirmed airline ticket to final destination
-->How can I purchase tickets before getting visas. If visas get rejected again doesnt make sense.

Pl somebody who got transit visas before guide me. Very much thanks in advance.

And pl do NOT post replies saying I dont need or need transit visa, After rumbling for 1 week I have decided to get them just for the heck.

german embassy

we got ours through chicago german consulate. their instructions confused us , so Icalled them on phone & asked what they want. i did not send any originals except passport.
I had already purchased tickets ( before knowing all these visa problems)
I sent the flight itineary.
I have H1 visa ( not stamped in the passport) -so I sent a copy of that.
I also have approved AP&485 paper. So I also sent that ( copies).
they will ask for notarized copies & advice to go local german offices , (there is one in mid west). But I did mine in the bank.
What the chicago people told me was that we have to go in person to get visa after sept 1st. So check that too. even if you are going in person take notarized copies / extra copies of all documents which permit you to stay& work in US . They keep the copies in their file.
best option is call them on phone. chicago has automated service which will give you detail instruction what they need. If you call after 2 clock in the afternoon , you can talk with an agent . they are very helpful.
