GC through Employment and Citizenship

I have a question about when to apply for citizenship:--

I got my GC through my employer in Feb 04. I quit the company in June 04 (around 4 months after) and joined another company. The websites and posts say that one can apply for citizenship after 5 year anniversary.

My question is should I apply after 5 years or 6 years as there is a question on the form that asks for list of places worked in the last five year. Will my quitting the employer 4 months after getting the GC cause any problems? I worked for the employer for 7 years (97 - 04).

Any feedback appreciated.

Even if you wait for 6 years after GC-employer and list only recent 5 years, the immigration officer always has the right to ask about your GC employer, and how long you worked for them *after* you got your GC.

It does not matter how many years you worked *before* you got the GC.

True, but if one applies at the 5-year mark, they don't even have to take the step of asking when one left the employer, as it is listed right there in their face.

Well, if they're going to charge you with filing a fraudulent I-485, it helps to have worked for the employer for a long time after filing it, even if most of that time was done before the GC.

Anyway, this topic has been discussed 100 times in the "Life After the Green Card" section. Aks4197, please read the sticky in that section and browse the threads over there. In summary, there is no definite answer, proceed at your own risk.

You worked for the co for 4 months after gc approval so you don't have reasons for concern.

Also you can apply a couple months before the 5 yr annv. Read the n400 qualifications thoughly to see what I mean.

I understand that green card holder shouldn't leave his/her sponsoring employer based on lawyer's suggestion. it is only suggestion. I think you will be fine. You just explain why you left in your own word if the officer asks you and officer would understand. You can apply for N-400 in Nov 2008 (90 days from Feb 2009 which will be your 5th anniversary of your gc), but check N-400 qualifications first.
