GC Stamping issues??

Hello Folks,

I have recently relocated to CT (East coast) and my approval has come from CSC. I understand that I have to go to San Francisco for getting the stamping done. Since I moved to CT, I now have a CT driving license and the DMV has taken my California license.

My questions are:

1. Would the Driving license be an issue while going for stamping?
2. Where would I need to show proof of residence - CA or CT?

RD - Oct 16th
ND - Nov 17th
Approval - Aug 8th
EB2 category

Your response will be helpful. Please let me know

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Guys:

Please help bring this up. I may be in the similar situation although I am still waiting for the approval.

For those who have done the PP stamping already:
Do they check the driver licence? I have been thinking the passport itself is already an ID?

Thanks.

I relocated to NH (after my 180 days). So, when the approval came, I went to the INS office in Boston to get my stamp.
I assumed that I would need NH drivers license, so I got a temporary license before going to Boston. INS never asked for it.

I got an RFE before the approval, and through my lawyer responded and also at that time notified about the job change and change of address.
I think whatever you do, speak the truth, don't pretend to live in CA if you are living in CT.

The sponsoring company in California closed their engineering department, so I had to get another job, and decided to move to the north east.

My application was handled by CSC.

Thanks Cobwebs. The reason I am a bit apprehensive is that some posts that referred to getting the stamping done in Arlington, VA. It was mentioned that one would need to have a VA Driving license without which the stamping would be denied as it forms a proof of residency in that state. Since your experience has been positive it gives me a bit of relief.

You said that you went to Boston for stamping. I wonder if it is possible for me to go to the local office in CT to get my stamping done? Please enlighten

Thanks.

I am only telling my own experience, not advicing you.

the approval letter from INS told me to go to Boston,
and I was supposed to bring with me proof of residency,
so I got my drivers license. The DMV office tried to deny
me the license, telling that I first had to get my
Green Card. Then I could get return and get my
drivers license... I did not agree to do so, as I was
sure INS would ask for the license.

Getting a drivers licence in NH is a bit tricky,
as you are treated differently as a green card holder.
I had to go to Concord, as this was the only DMV office in
NH that will issue drivers license to GC holders.
Also, the license was issued for only one year, which
would be OK if everyone else got their licenses for
only one year, but I think other people who pay the
same fee will get licenses that are valid for longer time.

good luck

Thanks for writing your experience. I have a CT Driving License and similar to your case my application has been processed by CSC. The para legal that I liase with for my case told me that I would need to come to CA (SFO) to get my GC stamped. Therefore I wonder if having a CT license is going to be an issue.

From what you wrote, I tend to understand that you had no driving license before you got the NH DL. Could you please let me know how did you manage to get the stamping done in Boston. Did you transfer the case to VSC from CSC? Does it matter where I get my stamping done?

Thanks once again.

Does anyone here have an experience where they had been to a service center in a different location for their stamping regardless of the one that they were supposed to go to?

I did of course have a CA drivers license. When moving to NH I was required to get a NH license within 60days, and DMV took my CA license and issued a piece of paper as temporary license.

My case was not transfered. INS got the change of address with the other paperwork when I responded to RFE. I also provided a letter from my new employer. My immigration lawyer in CA handled all communication with INS.

I think you better talk to an immigration lawyer before you go for the stamp.
