GC self application - EB1

Hi -
I am a physician who is relocating to India after being in the US on J-1 for 7 years and then on O-1 for 5 years. Both my wife and I are J-1 physicians and my relocation is related to her O-1 refusal post 9/11. However, I am planning on applying for my GC through EB-1 without an employer sponsorship (using my O-1 credentials). My hope is to have the GC approval ready when our 2 years home rule would be over.
Is it possible to go this route?
Any prior experiences(good/bad)?
How long does it take to get this approval?
What would be the approx attorney fees?
Any other way to apply for my GC if this route is not recommended?
Thanks Rags

should not be a problem with your prior O1. i have friends who got EB1 approved.
why don't you use your O1 papers? current lawyer fee: apprx $7000

Thanks J1 Victim! Is there a way I could get in touch with you or one of your EB1 success story friends and how they went about applying for it? You can email me at trinity_rags at yahoo dot com. I really appreciate your input.
