I finally received my GC replacement. Everything is correct this time.

My GC application was approved in April 2006, and received both the welcome notice and GC the same day. The problem was that the GC was damaged (burned actually). So I filed an I-90 application for GC replacement and sent my application to NSC along with my original damaged card.

I never received a receipt about my I-90 application. I contacted USCIS few times, and every time I called I received conflicting information. On 6/1/2006, I sent a letter to NSC requesting a status update. On the same day I spoke to a nice officer and he suggested me to file another I-90 application. I followed his advice and re-filed a new I-90 application and paid for it. I received a new receipt with new receipt number (MSCxxxxx) few days later.

A month later, I received a response from NSC about my status request and I was told that there is no record on file about my submission of a GC replacement application. I was asked to provide prove of payment which I did not have becuase I was told I do not need to pay for the replacement card.

Few months later, I received a transfer notice about my I-90 application> My case was transfered to the NSC for processing. Few days ago, a strange thing happend. I received an email notice that the NSC mailed out my GC, but it was under my original I-485 receipt number. The same day, I received another email to inform me that my I-90 application with teh MSC receipt number was transferred to Chicago. Today, I received both my gc and a transfer notice. I don't even know what is going on. I live in New York, Why Chicago? Also, NSC just approved my case and sent me a GC, what is the transfer about. I guess the NSC found my original I-90 applciation that I applied in April.

Now, I don't know if I should border to call USCIS and cancel my second I-90 application (the one with MSC receipt number). I worry that they will get confused and cancel my I-485 instead. You never know.

At least, I finally received my gc after four months of waiting.
