GC renewing and Naturalization

I applied for citizenship in January 30, 2004 to the VSC center while I was still waiting for my I-751 to get approved.
Recently, I received a letter stating my interview date for naturalization. Right after that I received another letter stating that my condition was removed and telling me to apply for renewing/changing my GC. Now my question:
Should I apply to renew my GC before the naturalization interview..?
Thank you all for your help

My Naturalization timeline:
POD: 30 January 2004
FP: 3 March 2004
Interview Date: 20 October 2004 at 1:00 pm
Sub-office: Newark/NJ

GC MUST BE VALID if you have to get Natz. So I suggest to renew GC. If you show up with an invalid GC, you will be shown the door automatically. Choice is yours!

Atleast you will have a reciept to show it to the interviewing officer. You need to change/replace the green card.

Thank you all for your answers, Today, I went to Newark office, my appointment was at 1:00 pm. I arrived there around 12:00 pm. I parked my car at the parking lot next the immigration building (plenty of space). After passing the security check, I headed to the 13 floor, where the interview was. After waiting about 15 min. The security officer let us in to the big waiting room and told us to drop our appointment letters in to the box in front of the window and wait. Wait..Wait... Wait... and Wait..
Although my appointment was at 1:00 pm, literally I waited more than 3 hours. Around 3:30 pm my name was called. I was guided in to office and sworn before take the seat.
Then she told me that she doesnt have my A-file folder but just my temprorary file (naturalization application folder), since I moved recently and just had my condition(I-751) removed. So she told me she can not approve my application at this time. But she said we can proceed with the interview and wait until we recieved your a-file from the center. I asked her how long it will take to recive the folder, she said not that long and if I hadnt heard anything within 60 days, I should write an inquiry about my status.
Anyways, then she proceed with naturalization questions, current job, marital status, nationality etc. She took my passport and check for the travelings, and she told me that I should get my passport stamped if I plan to travel outside. She continued with the questions form the application form (have you been cited, been part of communist party and etc.).
Then she asked me few questions about history from 100 sample questions. They were easy and straight forward. She asked me to write a sentence "Nothing matters more than peace". And read a sentence which was very easy that I cant remember.
I signed few papers and photos. And that was it.
She checked the box "Decison can not be made at this time" and told me one more time that we should wait until she recieved my A-file from the center.
As I was thinking no more waiting but I guess waiting is my destiny..
Thank you all and best of luck to all of you..

PS. please let me know if anyone has gone through the same experience.

Jerseybuck, I am still waiting for my Oath, same duplicate A-File reason, I was interviewed on 6/07/04, the officer who interviewed me also told to write an inquiry after 60 days, i have done so and no reply as if today.

6776,
Sorry to hear that you have the same problem. Are you also in Newark Jurisdiction?.
There should be way to accelarate this procedures.
Good Luck,

My friends brother lost his GC on the way back from Kinko's where he went to make a copy for his N400 application. He went ahead and applied for a replacement GC just in case he needed it for travel abroad or a job interview. He was naturalized before he recieved his new GC and was sent a letter as a result of his new status requesting that he send evidence that he has been naturalized and that he formally request to withdraw his GC application.

Bashar82,
Thank you for the info, the officer told me that even you apply for the GC you would not get the new card, since you have a petition for naturalization. But she said you can get your passport stamped.
thank you again
:)

6776,
Good luck, please post your experience in here. If I hear anything about my status I will post it here.
Thank you again and best of luck

I recieved my oath letter on December 12th. My six years of INS experience finally (hopefully) will come to an end on January 7th 2005.
Good luck to all :)

some questions

Would you mind answering me some questions. I am in a similar situation. Received the N-400 interview but nothing on the I-751. Note that I filed a waiver.
1.when did you file your I-751?
2. Did you file joint or waiver?
3. How much time after the N-400 notice of interview, did you get the I-751 approval?

Thanks

Dear Mamon,

1- I filed I-751 in January 2003, got an approval in July 2004, but received the notice in August 2004.
2- Yes, I filed jointly to the Nebraska Service Center, then moved to NJ.
3- I got my interview notice for Naturalization in July 2004.
My Time line for Naturalization:
POD: 30 January 2004
FP: 26 March 2004
Interview letter received : 23 July 2004
Interview date: 20 October 2004
Oath date : 7 January 2005 ( I had to wait until they locate my A-file, I still dont know the eact reason for that, but my anticipations are 1- Moving, 2- Having I-751 approval at the same time)

I hope, somehow I answered your questions..

Good luck,
Jerseybuck
