I went through the threads but I couldn't find step by step process for filling green card if your busband/wife is a US citizen and you are legally in US on a non immigrant visa. I would appreciate if someone can find some time to write the process. I searched online on other sites but none has a detailed process. Would appreciated

Thanks.

Hello,
I am in the same as you. I have applied GC for my wife who is on L1-b visa after I become US Citizen. For your clarity to apply GC. First go throught www.uscis.gov for Permanent resident under Family basis. Read the instructions how to apply and what forms do you required to apply.
Also see this thread that I have posted couple of questions and got answers from others. This might also relate to your case

reach.......... check out the book I have listed in my signature... it's a real helper and timesaver... BUt here's a quick rundown of what you will have to do:

File the following documents with the USCIS:

I-130
I-485
I-864 (Afadavit of support by your spouse - USC)
I-693 (Medical Exam - Dr. fills this out for you)

optional:

I-765 (Work Authorization in US - Recommended helps to get your SS# faster)
I-131 (Travel)

You will also have to provide the USCIS with supporting documents with such things like joint bank account statements, four - six passport photos, photocopies of passports, ID's, Property lease with both your names on it, birth certificates, etc... etc... the documents/forms from USCIS will tell you what the require and expect. THe book also helps you to get a grip on what the forms mean. It is written by two immigration lawyers. Be aware though, that the book may have out of date filing fees for each application... always go with what's current on the USCIS forms.

You can also keep posting here with any questions you have about the process if you run into trouble.
